There will be a planned power outage on Feb. 4.
Planned Electric Service Interruption Ocean Grove. JCP&L has announced a planned electricservice interruption on Tuesday, February 4from 0930 to 1200 hours.
The followingstreets will be affected in Ocean Grove:
- Main Avenue
- Heck Avenue
- Embury Avenue
- Webb Avenue
- Abbott Avenue
- Broadway
- Ocean Avenue
- Beach Avenue,and Central Avenue
A letter of concern sent to Neptune Township from Richard Lepore of the Chamber of Commerce is posted below, having been forwarded to us by the writer:
“I am very concerned about the timing of this event based on weather forecast. With a high of 17, homes and businesses going without heat for 4 hours is risky and the temps inside could drop very low quickly and pipes would then be in danger. Also, when the power comes back on, some of these old systems may have issues restarting and catching up. Please consider this concern in your planning.”

Paul,
I DID call JCP&L once more and I DEMANDED CLARIFICATION as suggested 🙂 This time I got a different story altogether!Current Information as of 1/31 is that : The OUTAGE is ON for TUESDAY unless weather dictates otherwise… —-VT

I also have these same concerns. I have a call into JCPL to discuss their badly timed improvements.
I see that Oldtimer said to relax “pipes take several days to freeze”…
But I would not like to be the house that does not fit into the norm.

I have the same concerns as all of the above people. I have a call into JCPL to try to understand their timing. It seems like a good idea that is badly timed.

I am very concerned about my old heating system….will it go on automatically? I am in Fla and will I have to hire my best pal Allen Tango , the plumber to return heat?
Editor’s note: Suggest you call Mr. Tango and tell him that there will be a brief power outage. He knows your system and should be able to reassure you. PG

FOB is Friend of Blogfinger. You, Ken, are an FOB as well as a blooger. A person can be a blooger without being an FOB.

Last week I received the official posting from NEPTUNE (Roberta Grace) about the planned interruption of electrical power next Tuesday morning . I also saw it on your blog. (BTW : I was glad to see Rich Lepore’s letter of complaint to JCP&L .)
I had also contacted First Energy by phone to complain and was told that “THERE is NO Interruption Planned on Feb 4th.” When I asked to speak with a supervisor in charge of Planned Outages I was again assured that they have no record of anything scheduled!! I am sure they thought I was hallucinating 🙂
So my question is “WASSUP BLOGFINGER??? ” (in other words WTF… 🙂
Editor’s Note: Valerie, I trembly at the though of allowing the F letter to creep into our comments section, but since it is merely a letter, I will allow it with an R rating.
As for your “Wassup” question, it reminds me of my wife who always asks me “why” questions. She could just say, “You left your shoe under the bed.” But no—-instead, she complicates my life by asking, “Why did you leave your shoe under the bed?” For that question, I need a psychoanalyst.
Anyhow, I have no idea what the answer to your question is. Please call them again, muster up a planned outrage, demand clarification, and then share the result with the rest of the bloogers and FOB’s out here in the Blogosphere.
Thanks, Paul

I heard that the power west of Pilgrim Pathway will not be affected

I just got off the phone with the electric company, they explained that the outage that morning will be staggered, and will probably only be out for 2 hours in each house. This is a system upgrade that must be done all over the area. Furnaces, etc should not have to be reset after the outage, but should come right back on.

Oldtimer: Thank you for the perspective. I remember all the unplanned power outages before the new sub-station in Bradley. Half of OG would be out a lot longer than 4 mid morning hours.

Relax peeps; the power will be out for only 4 hours. It takes several days for a house to cool to the point of freezing pipes — even if it’s single digits. Temporary power outages happen from time to time. The fact that this one is planned — and that it will last for 4 hours — suggests that they are doing an upgrade to the infrastructure. That’s something we should all be happy about.

I have never in my many years heard of a “planned power outage”. What is it?
Will it effect burglar alarms? Will they be responsible if pipes burst? Has the township no say about this and how will everyone be informed?on January 27, 2014 at 12:32 pm Marjorie
I REALLY hope they can be dissuaded. I had thousands of dollars in damage from the Polar Vortex and I can’t be there on the 4th to press the restart button on the furnace.

This seems like a really bad idea, unless absolutely necessary, given the exceptionally cold weather we have been having.

I thought it was really poor timing myself. Couldn’t they do this work in April or May? JCP&L’s announcement fails to explain WHAT or WHY they are doing this. Maybe they need to hire some more competent communicators in the PR department.

Already had pipes burst with the last arctic front. This is a very bad idea and I will be calling them and urging them to wait.

I had the same concerns I think the timing is really poor…
